Historic Baker Building to be restored, revived as mixed-use development in downtown New Baltimore
The Baker Building, a long-standing piece of New Baltimore’s downtown history, is planned for restoration after sitting vacant for several years. Originally built in 1868, the building first served as a general store and later became home to the Baker family business, which operated in the space for more than a century and played an important role in the early commercial life of the city.
Plans for the building call for a careful restoration that preserves its historic features while giving it new life as a mixed-use space. The redevelopment includes street-level commercial space along with three residential units on the upper floors, allowing the structure to continue serving the community in a modern way.
The project is being supported in part by state funding aimed at revitalizing historic downtown buildings, helping ensure that one of New Baltimore’s older commercial structures remains a visible and functional part of the city’s future.
